have built. Haxon arranges contractors insurance across Sussex and beyond, public liability,

employers’ liability, plant and tools, contract works and professional indemnity, reviewed against the specific requirements of the contracts you hold and the clients you work for.

working to the requirements of a principal contractor, Haxon provides the expertise and the

Every element of a comprehensive contractors insurance programme.

  • PUBLIC LIABILITY

Cover for claims from third parties, clients, members of the public or other people on site

arising from your work or your operations generally. Haxon arranges public liability insurance for contractors at limits of £1m, £2m, £5m or £10m depending on the nature of your contracts.

  • EMPLOYERS LIABILITY

Legally required if you employ staff or engage subcontractors on a labour-only basis. Covers claims from employees or subcontractors arising from workplace injury or occupational disease. Many contractors underestimate their obligations here, particularly in relation to subcontractors.

  • PLANT & EQUIPMENT

Cover for owned and hired-in plant including excavators, telehandlers, access platforms,

compressors and specialist equipment, on an agreed value or any-one-item basis, covering damage, theft and breakdown.

  • TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

Cover for portable hand tools, power tools and specialist equipment, whether held on site, in a vehicle or at your premises. Policies typically include cover for theft from unattended vehicles with appropriate security provisions.

  • CONTRACT WORKS (JCT)

Cover for work in progress on site, protecting the value of the works themselves against loss or damage from fire, flood, vandalism and accidental damage, from commencement through to practical completion and handover.

  • PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY

For contractors providing design services, site supervision or professional advice alongside their physical works, covering claims arising from design errors, inadequate specifications or professional negligence.

  • PERSONAL ACCIDENT

Available for self-employed contractors who need income protection in the event of injury that prevents them from working.

The contract you are about to sign may require more than you currently hold.

One of the most common problems Haxon encounters when reviewing a new contractor client’s cover is a gap between what their existing policy provides and what their contracts actually require. A public liability limit of £1m may have been adequate when the business was smaller. A new contract with a local authority, housing association or large main contractor may require £5m or £10m.

Haxon reviews your current and anticipated contracts alongside your existing cover to identify these gaps before they become a problem.

What is the difference between public liability and employers liability for contractors?

Public liability covers claims made against you by third parties for injury or property damage caused by your work. Employers’ liability covers claims made against you by your own employees or labour-only subcontractors for injury or illness suffered in the course of their work. Both are essential for any contractor with people working for them. Public liability alone is insufficient.

Let us review your contractors insurance.

If your insurance has not been reviewed against your current contracts and activities recently, or if you are taking on new work that requires higher limits or different cover, we would welcome the conversation.
